Our lead touch typing tutors are Sarah and Nick Holt who have taught primary and secondary age children in both the state and private sector. We started Typing's Cool in 2010, initially in two New Malden primary schools as after school clubs. Typing's Cool has also been run as a successful holiday club on a local housing estate with disadvantaged children. For children and young people unable to attend our weekly clubs in schools, we now run half term and holiday clubs in New Malden Library.
We currently run over a dozen clubs in local independent schools in the South West London area. The clubs are attended by pupils from Year 3 - Year 9 and each club is team taught by two - three tutors in order to provide lots of 1 - 1 support and help. Around 55% of our learners are boys and 45% are girls and the average age is Year 5. Younger children can learn how to touch type just as effectively as older children using our unique mix of physical exercises, fun games, individual and group challenges and a range of best in class software programmes developed by educational psychologists.
Sarah was year 2 class teacher at Weston Green School, Thames Ditton and previously has taught in secondary schools in England and abroad. She has a PSHE background and is particularly interested in how children can overcome emotional and other barriers to successfully learn.
Nick began his career as a secondary school special needs teacher and has worked with Oxbridge pupils as a school More Able Pupil co-ordinator. Following a Head of English role in an international school he went on to run highly successful community education programmes in two London boroughs and now works as a free lance education consultant. Nick uses brain based, accelerated learning strategies to teach touch typng using a holistic educational approach. Nick is also an experienced adult trainer for two local authorities and holds the A1 Assessors award in order to coach at NVQ level.
Cath Heery joined us in 2016 from a background as a key stage 2 teacher at a Kingston primary school. Cath runs some of our term time school clubs.
